During this class we had the opportunity to present
our first project. The first group were Liz and Stephany; they worked with 10
graders and they created different activities to reinforce reading; they worked
with holidays and culture. They did a very well-organized presentation. The activities
they created were thought to ask students to use high order level skills. They
also try to encourage students to feel love for their culture.
The second group worked with leisure activities for 9
graders; they focused on reading as well.
Then I and Odette presented our project about goods and
services. Here is the link to our presentation: http://prezi.com/iubrbvh_tryn/goods-and-services/
The next group
talked about achievements of national athletes. They wanted their students to
give opinions about their favorite personalities; this is a very good activity
because it gives students the chance to think and express their opinions. The
following group worked with sports and leisure activities for 9 graders, they
created different flash cards according to the topic and a matching to evaluate
their students’ knowledge.
Some important comments regarding the presentations include:
Importance of teaching culture: Teachers should take into account Costa Rica’s culture
and English Speaking Countries’ culture not only the United States’ culture.
Importance of reaching all kind of students: Teachers should take into account different learning
styles and different intelligences (Multiple intelligences). Students with
special needs must be also addressed.
Importance of teaching motivated students: activities must be done to facilitate students to
give a proper answer or positive results not otherwise.
Importance of correcting mistakes: Mistakes must be corrected, but professors should do
it in an assertive and friendly way.
Once the different groups were done, we discussed
some important points about each presentation. This allowed us to see the
differences in style each group has, and it also helped us to improve our ways
of thinking and planning.
Each professor should consider his or her student’s
intelligences and also their learning styles. Here is a link to a website with
very interesting information about this particular topic; it also includes some
questionnaires to find out our students’ learning styles and intelligences.
